Redwood League Board Letter to Gryphons Teams and PlayersPrintable

January 16, 2009

To the Parents, Players, Coaches and Managers of the Gryphons Soccer Club:

Late last year, Michael Lindeburg, founder of the San Andreas Youth Soccer Organization (SAYSO), deliberately accessed the personal information of the parents, players, coaches, managers, officers and referees associated with competitive soccer in CYSA District 2.

This unauthorized access of data resulted in Mr. Lindeburg's indefinite suspension by the California Youth Soccer Association from all soccer activities. In addition, the Redwood League required the SAYSO Club to make a complete break from Michael Lindeburg, his company and his employees.

On Monday January 12, the Redwood League Board of Directors heard the results of the work done by the new management of the Gryphons Soccer Club (formerly SAYSO) to comply with this directive. The League found that the results were deficient and the Board of Directors voted to not allow the Gryphons Soccer Club to continue to participate in the Redwood League and CYSA once the 2008-09 playing year ends.

What this means to you is that:

  1. For Spring 2009, all existing SAYSO teams can continue to play in CYSA leagues (Redwood and D2) as part of the Gryphons Club

  2. However, no new Gryphons teams are allowed to play in CYSA leagues this Spring; and

  3. No teams, existing or new, will be allowed to register in CYSA as Gryphons teams for Fall 2009. Other points to consider when determining where to play are:

  • The Redwood League did not throw out any teams or players or restrict their ability to participate in competitive soccer. This decision is directed solely at the Gryphons Club organization.

  • Existing SAYSO teams can continue in CYSA once they affiliate with a different Club.

  • The League decision does not limit players who leave the Gryphons Club from trying out for any other teams in CYSA; and

  • The League decision does not affect teams that choose to completely withdraw from CYSA and play in any other organization’s soccer leagues.

Players and teams are encouraged to contact any other Redwood League club if they would like to continue to play in CYSA with their existing coaches and managers. The list of clubs is available on the Redwood League website (www.redwoodsoccer.org/clubs) In addition, any member of the Redwood League Executive Staff or Board (www.redwoodsoccer.org/contacts) can help you contact other existing teams and clubs if that is what you want to do.
