Bulk Email, what is it?Printable

Bulk Email is a means to send an email to selected recepients. Each email will be individually sent - meaning there will be one name in the To: and one name in the From: and no names in the CC: or BCC: areas.

The sender will be YOU. The default is to show YOUR primary email as the sender as defined in your Profile. (You can select which of your Profile emails is shown as the sender.) The transmitting of the emails will be handled by The RidgeStar system.

Common Email courtesy

Judicious use of the bulk email capability of RedwoodSoccer can benefit all Users. Indiscriminate use can cause ill feelings.

Carefully targeted emails, sent to individuals that are likely to be interested in your message are preferable to simply checking a few boxes and sending an email to hundreds of addresses. ABUSE this feature and you will LOSE this feature.

Email can end up being blocked or isolated by SPAM filters. Some hosts (earthlink for one) will only accept email from senders on a white (approved) list.

Email SPF Guidelines

SPF is standard by which sent email is verified as to the sender. Under SPF guidelines the sender of an email can not spoof their address - ie you can not claim to be sending the email from JoeCoach@gmail.com because the email is actually being generated at www.redwoodsoccer.org . The standard is used to combat spam. Emails generated via bulk email are shown to come from a www.redwoodsoccer.org domain. The recipient will see {Your SiteName} at www.redwoodsoccer.org as the sender of the bulk email. If the recepient hits the Reply button the email will be sent to your email address specified when you sent out the bulk email.

Because the site is sending the email, the site (webmaster) will receive all notices of bad addresses, undeliverable mail, delayed mail and notices of sequestered email. The volume of these returns makes it impractical for the webmaster to tell you that a particular recepient did not get a particular email. Recepients with Earthlink domain addresses are particularly time consuming. Earthlink only accepts emails from senders that the recepient has specifically authorized. The process to request authorization is time consuming.
